Fall PD Equips Daystar Teachers
to Empower Students

Preparation for the fall professional development
event began early last school year with teacher
training opportunities centered on the development
of clear targets to guide student learning. This
school year, teachers have engaged in additional
assessment-themed training sessions leading up
to our fall workshop. As well, Ms. Chappuis visited
several elementary and middle school Daystar-Beigao
classrooms prior to the training to better understand
our bilingual model and see many of our instructional
practices in action.
I
n late October, Daystar’s Teaching, Learning, and
Innovation (TLI) office was excited to welcome
globally recognized author and assessment expert
Jan Chappuis for our two-day fall staff development.
In alignment with our school-wide focus on assessment
this year, Ms. Chappuis provided practical, research-
based structures and insight designed to support
teachers as they empower students to be active
participants in the learning process.
