ITI NEWS The ICAN School Project By Ryan Cardwell, Director of Ivy Training Institute F or the past four years, Ivy Schools have been engaged in an informal collaboration with Riverside School in Ahmedabad, India. We have participated in the Design for Change movement, sponsored and hosted the DFC Global Conference in December 2016 and had an ongoing teacher exchange program. Riverside is a school that has applied Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences and design thinking to create a school like none other. Riverside’s visionary founder, Ms. Kiran Sethi has crafted a curriculum and an approach to learning that balances doing ‘good’ and doing ‘well’ that produces graduates that are not only academic achievers but also have a commitment to making the world a better place than we found it. For these reasons in August of 2018, Ivy Education Group entered into a formal 3 year collaboration which seeks to apply the best practices of Riverside School in Ivy Schools. Ivy Schools Spring/Summer Edition 2019 The first stage of this project is well underway. We seek to make Ivy Academy, Sanlitun campus into our ICAN Beacon school and then use it as a base from which to support the growth and development of all of schools in China. In October of 2018, two staff members from Ivy Academy, Sheena Lv and Allie Cockburn spent a week at Riverside studying some key processes and then brought them back to Ivy Academy for application here. After that, in February of 2019, Campus Director Victoria Li, Daystar Elementary School Principal Kari King and myself also travelled to Ahmedabad to visit Riverside. In early April we had another group of three teachers travelling to India, and a team of educators from Riverside will be coming to Beijing to provide training and close support.
