Our contribution to Indian education Formed in 1991, Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) has successfully and proudly stepped into its 23rd year. The growth and evolution of SINDA has been accompanied with a myriad of changes to better cater to the Indian community in Singapore. With the aim of ensuring that the education and socio-economic levels of the Indian community increases, SINDA has been working hard for past 23 years through various projects. This vision of SINDA has been its founding principle. SINDA released a Strategic Review Report upon reaching its 20th year Anniversary in 2011. The report was crucial to help SINDA re-orientate itself to better cater to the community covering its blind spots alongside ensuring the growth of the Indian community. “SINDA 2020: the New Momentum” is reported to give penultimate importance to the education standards of the Indian community. This report was formulated and announced by SINDA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr T Raja Segar, who took up the task as his utmost priority. During his 5 years tenure as CEO, Mr Raja Segar made instrumental changes to the organisational structure to better suit to the problems faced by the Indian community. With his efforts and help, the Saadhana ‘A’ Level Tuition Project has greatly benefitted through various means. Saadhana is a project that is organised by the NUS Tamil Language Society (NUS TLS). He showed extra and personalised concern on this project as he personally wanted more Indian students from Junior Colleges/Pre-University centres to be able to enter a local university. With the motivation of wanting to provide students the right platform for improving their education and thus the overall wellbeing of the individual, Mr Raja Segar went the extra mile to support NUS TLS. Despite being the CEO of SINDA, he was able to interact as a student with the members of NUS TLS as Saadhana is a project that is organised and carried out by university students for the community at large. At the end of June this year, Mr Raja Segar would be bidding farewell to his current position of CEO of SINDA At this juncture, NUS TLS would like to thank Mr Raja Segar for his never ending support to us and most importantly having the faith in NUS TLS. At this moment, we would like to warmly welcome Mr Kumaran Barathan who would be taking over the position of CEO from the 1st of July this year. We believe that his experience and expertise would prove useful for SINDA to further improve its services to the Indian community. Both SINDA and NUS TLS are organisations that have good relationships. This was possible due to accumulated goodwill over the years. Both these organisations have a fond interest in ensuring the social and educational upliftment of the Indian community in Singapore. As such, we are ready to work together to further engage the Indian community through various projects in the upcoming years. சிங்கப்பூர்த் தேசிய பல்கலைக்கழகத் தமிழ்ப் பேரவை 35ம் செயற்குழு 77
