Saadhana ‘A’ Level Tuition Programme - a project that
began in 1984 has reached its 30th year mark this calendar year. This project has been organised by NUS
Tamil Language Society (NUS TLS) on a yearly basis
ever since the inception of the project. The 34th Organising Committee which organised the Saadhana
2013 received the Gold Award during the 9th Students’
Achievement Awards which was held at National University of Singapore on the 24th of January 2014. Saadhana ‘A’ Level Tuition Programme has been heavily supported by Singapore Indian Development Association
(SINDA) and Singapore Indian Education Trust (SIET).
It is without doubt that over the years, the quality of
Saadhana in terms of location
and tutors has been constantly
upgraded to provide top quality
education for the Indian youth.
The primary objective
of Saadhana is to ensure that a
higher number of Indian youth
are able to enter universities
and embark on the courses of
their choice after the completion of their GCE ‘A’ Level Examinations. Such an objective
has resulted in increased motivation amongst the organising committee to take the project further. Moreover, to ensure that there are no obstacles to one’s education, especially in financial terms, enrolled students
would only need to pay a nominal tuition fee. The rates
that these students pay for Saadhana is much cheaper
compared to what private tutors charge. This would not
have been possible without the extensive support offered from SINDA and SIET.
Furthermore, experienced and veteran teachers
like Mr Manimaran, Mr Aasaithamby, Mr Chuah and
many others continue to motivate the students, pushing
them in the right direction to achieving better grades
and to ensure that the students get a place in their desired university reading their desired course of study.
As such, it is undeniable if it is claimed that NUS Tamil
Language Society has reached its objective as statistics
do show that more students from Saadhana are entering universities, improving grades, ad infinitum.
As of June 2014, we have about 120 students
enrolled in this project. The more than projected num-
bers show the success and new heights that Saadhana
has attained and would strive to achieve in the coming
years. For Saadhana 2013, there was an improvement of
one grade by 86% of 1st year students and 50% of the
2nd year students improved two grades in their GCE
‘A’ Level Examinations. These numbers are further enhanced by the fact that many students got a place into a
local university. This rubber-stamps Saadhana’s credentials.
In this project, subjects like General Paper,
Mathematic s, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Economics are being offered to both JC 1 and JC 2 students.
Based on the feedback received from students
last year, NUS TLS, together with its supporting organisations, decided
to hold this project at
Management
Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Queenstown
campus. The project was
launched successfully on
8th March 2014. Saadhana,
by its nature, is a longrunning project which
would run for about 6 to 8 months. As such, this year,
the project would run till 27th September 2014.
The Organising Committee for Saadhana 2014
are Balamuniappan Pranesh, Mohammed Shameer,
Nanthinii Yegambaram, Lakshmi Shandra Bos and
Jharyathri Thiagarajah. These Saadhana Directors have
worked hard to prepare additional resource packages
for the students. These materials were given free-ofcharge to those enrolled in Saadhana.
Having reached its 30th year, Saadhana would
not have been successful without the support from the
students, parents, teachers and our supporting organisations. We hope that this never ending support would
continue and this would lead us to greater heights. We
would like to thank everyone for all the support!
