The importance of Tamil Language in Singapore’s Politics

I have a strong passion for Tamil due to the various Tamil
related organisations that I have been part of. I truly
enjoy researching about the growth and sustainability of
Tamil language in Singapore. I am particularly interested
to find out more about the means and ways in which
Tamil language can be strengthened in Singapore society.
I have done basic research on this field during my free
time. I have a strong interest towards research and have
been exploring different research methods throughout
my university education. My paper for this conference
will focus on the role and importance of Tamil language
in the political scene of Singapore. I strongly believe that
the Tamil-speaking society in Singapore has aided the
growth of Singapore into a global city within 50 years of
independence. Hence, it is of my interest to find out more
in particular how the Tamils in Singapore had played a
role in Singapore’s developmental story, particularly in
the political scene. Furthermore, I would explore the ways
Tamil speaking youth of today can politically contribute to
the country’s development. My passion towards Tamil has
been present since the day I started learning the language,
this passion will continue for years to come.
