OBJECTIVE:
Promote the linkage between biodiversity conservation
and sustaining people’s livelihoods
The need to achieve long-term sustainability of conservation efforts is
the driving force of ASPB. Nothing is possible without effective fundraising.
While poverty is one of the drivers of biodiversity degradation, pro-poor (or
community-based) tourism can be an effective shift for local economy and an
important tool for empowerment and biodiversity conservation. One of ASPB’s
recent conservation trends is to generate income stream for local community
through creation of environmental information hubs or visitor centers, set
up at IBAs to provide an up-to-date information about local wildlife, key
conservation challenges and achievements, as well as assist in organizing
birdwatching tours and generate income from other types of ecotourism.
Birdwatching
Every year, international ornithologists and
amateur birdwatchers visit ASPB to enjoy Armenia’s
remarkable birdlife and the safety of traveling with
a knowledgeable local.
Visitor center
Visitor centers is an ambitious initiative that
ASPB has started in 2010 to establish a strong
voice & communication platform for local
communities, gene
