Spring Alive: Communicating
spring migration across Armenia
Since 2009, ASPB has promoted the birdwatching for children
through the Spring Alive campaign. Every year, children and
adults from all around Armenia are invited to communicate
their first observation of a Swallow (Hirundo rustica), Swift
(Apus apus), Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) and White Stork
(Ciconia ciconia) via a specially designed website which
shows spring ‘progressing’ in Armenia.

“Bird of the Year” Campaign
The ‘Bird of the Year’ campaign is a global initiative that
takes place annually in Armenia. The aim of
this campaign is to choose a bird species
through the public voting and heighten a
public interest towards the need for
protecting the bird and its habitat. A
vital component of this campaign is
Bird Festivals held by ASPB to celebrate
the selected bird species and focused
on involving local citizenry. The Festival
counts on the participation of all people
interested in celebrating the wonders of nature and
birds with the aim of conserving them. Past events have
included indoor meetings, lectures, seminars and film showings – through
to celebrating the wonder of birds with arts performances (music, theatre
& poetry readings), children’s events (face painting, bird costume making,
painting competitions), and exhibitions (paintings, prints, photographs).
