"Linguistic Special Forces"
celebrates its 7th birthday
The team's history began in
September 2011, when the participants of the
global international project “Saving cranes”
who study the habitats of various species of
cranes, Far Eastern storks and other rare and
endangered bird species came to Muraviovka
Park. They were German students-
ornithologists, Andreas Sigmund and Friedrich
Aidam (University of Greifswald, Mecklenburg-
Western Pomerania) accompanied by the
project coordinator, Wieland Heim (University
of Leipzig, Saxony). The management of the
park applied to the department of the
German language at BSPU with a request for
interpreters. The Volunteer interpreters who
wanted to help German students to adapt in
our region were 2nd year students of the
German-English department, Juliana
Nefedova and Natalia Kozlovskaya. Group
mates of these students went to Muraviovka
Park as well. They attended traditional actions
and holidays, communicated with bird-
watchers in German and English. What`s more,
the students had an opportunity to take part
in ringing birds and measuring their wings.
Soon, follow-up visits included excursions to
Blagoveshchensk and sightseeing.
The first meeting was held with the
students of the university who studied the
German and English languages and the
international exchange of experience and
impressions was a great success!
In 2012 the teachers of the German language
department took the initiative to provide
volunteer assistance to Muraviovka Park and
organized the first joint visit of teachers and 1-
4 year students. That was the first time when
not only the German students took part in the
activities. Meeting with the park staff,
observing its inhabitants, communicating with
ornithologists from Germany, cleaning the
enclosures and the park's territory – all this
strengthened friendship between the Park
and the Foreign Languages Department. After
that, cooperation with Muraviovka Park
became traditional, and the circle of people
who wanted to help the Park and improve their
speaking skills expanded. In 2013, for the
purpose of environmental education, an

In general, visits to the park are usually
connected with cleaning the area of the Park.
They take place in autumn and spring. In

summer our students take part in linguistic-
ecological schools for pupils from Amurskaya
region and Khabarovsky Kray. The students
help ornithologists to introduce the local flora
and fauna to the visitors of the park. They also
hold meetings with ornithologists on the basis
of the BSPU, where they discuss problems of
volunteering in Russia and Germany. The
activity of the team is regularly published on
the website of the foreign languages
department and on the website of the BSPU,
as well as in the German-language
international collection “Deutsch Weltweit”
(“German all over the world”).
We thank all the volunteers for their
activity and hope that in the future more and
more new participants will join our team!

Reminiscences of the Beautiful…
How great it is, and how cool
To go to places where the minutes
Run faster than a train can run,
And fill your soul anew, again
With memories about the gift of nature,
The marvel, Muraviovka Park.
Muraviovka Park… There is hardly
anyone among the BSPU students who does
not know about this amazing place. I believe
such people cannot be found. But probably
there are some first-year students who either
