TRAVELING Montenegro Ekaterina Osipova Head of DO.ART creative space, Blagoveshchensk (Russia) Montenegro is the land of breathtaking views, delicious food and...handsome men. And, yes, the Adriatic Sea! I visited Montenegro only once but I'll cherish these memories forever. We decided to stay in a small tourist town of Budva and take some bus tours to different parts of the country and it was the right choice for sure. Budva is famous for its clean beaches, nice views, hospitable people and the Old Town with the Citadel. It's an ideal place if you want to enjoy slow life, sunbathe, have a glass of smoothie and take nice pictures. But if you want to experience something new, I strongly recommend you to visit the canyons, take a sea cruise and go to Ostrog monastery. The latter was our first destination as it's one of Montenegro's symbols and a sacred place for Orthodox christians. It took us about 2 hours to get there by bus. The road was narrow and winding, the views were spectacular and sometimes it was really scary as I had never travelled serpentine roads before. Eventually, we got there and I was astonished! A massive white building made in the rock! The place with the unique atmosphere and unbelievable energetic vibes. The most unusual thing about it is that you're standing among hundreds of people but you don't feel that it's crowded. You feel peace and calm. On my way back to Budva, I had a strong feeling that I should return to Ostrog again. Hope I'll do it next time. In 2 days we went to another one day trip, to Kotor. It's one of the most beautiful port towns of Montenegro with a rich historical background. But I'll remember Kotor not for its fortress or a leaning clock tower, but for... Cats Square! Imagine a square full of cats: sunbathing, sleeping lazily on the ground, licking their paws and chasing each other. Now you have the idea what this place looks like. Why is it so popular with cats? They say there are 2 possible reasons. According to the first one, long time ago there was a fish market in this place and cats patrolled it in search of food and adventures. The second legend says that there was a woman who lived in one of the houses next to the square and fed all the local cats. And of course, according to our guide, she was a lonely spinster who had no relatives, children and any joy in her life. A classic story. I took dozens pictures and moved on wondering who actually had fed the cats after the death of that noble woman. Montenegro journey was full of 23 SUNRISE adventures! Once one of the guides told us that we were going to Albania instead of a canyon tour. I didn't mind the change of plans but other tourists were shocked. They thought they had taken the wrong bus but...it turned out that the guide was kidding. Just imagine people's faces! And one of the most exciting experiences was rafting. It took us about 4 hours to get to the camp, then we changed into wetsuits and started our journey down the river. It was incredible! Beautiful views, sharp rocks, splashes of water and...I nearly lost my paddle! I don't know why but during all my journeys I do some crazy stuff. But thanks to that I always have a story to tell because travelling is not just about visiting sights and fo l l ow i n g g u i d e b o o ks, i t ' s a b o u t n e w experience, adventures and people.
