When a Dream Comes True
as one of the remarkable guests invited to the
pompous ball. Candles were lit in the vast
Great Throne Room where the Emperor and
Empress as well as Grand Dukes met their
guests. The provincial nobility was received in
the Emblem Hall covered all over with gilded
bronze sparkling in the candlelight.
Speaking about the Russian museum,
it`s quite different. It`s situated not far from
Savior on the Spilt Blood and represents a
large yellow-colored classical building
decorated with snow-white columns. Here you
can see the poetic Russian landscapes and
historical canvases belonging to the brush of
the Russian painters living from the 18th
century to our days. Among the most precious
exhibits there are also icons which show us
holy images created on wood with tempera.
The painters were said to have gained a
special divine blessing to see the images of
God and saints and render them afterwards.
The history of icon painting is sacred and
evokes many speculations and discussions.
Obviously, visiting museums wasn't all
my occupation. One more pastime I was lucky
to fulfill my journey with was an equestrian
sporting event as I am fond of this kind of
sport. I attended Expoforum which is devoted
to the competition among many breeds of
horses (about 240), beautiful and strong. The
«Hipposphere» is an incredible event which is
popular with tourists and foreigners. Being
there I could see people from Germany,
Finland and many other European countries.
They spoke not only their native language but
English too so I had an opportunity to practice
my oral skills and it was amazing experience to
exchange the impressions on the event and
ask and answer questions on our homelands.
Also, I visited the stable and I`d like to say that
if you love horses like me you should definitely
do it when in Saint Petersburg.
In conclusion it`s worth mentioning
that St. Petersburg is one of those places
where you want to return. The atmosphere of
this city so fascinates that it gives the desire
to live through all the minutes spent there
again. It was the best summer in my life ever!
