Chief Editor Dear readers! You hold the first edition of the English-language newspaper "Sunrise." I came up with the idea to create it when I had the following dream many years ago: I was walking along the coast, and there was a gentle blush of dawn on the horizon. In the distance, a sailboat rocked on the waves, and the wind was going through the warm sand under my feet... Since then, the feeling that I have to create some good and exciting deed has not left me. Being the most creative person and literature aficionado, I realized that I had to combine my two main passions in my project: love for books and English, on the study of which I have spent about 20 years. Almost my entire adult life. The name of this print edition was born from its main idea – to open the way to creativity and serve as an inspiration for everyone who touches its pages, because sunrise means the beginning of a new bright day. The most reverent and tender time of the day, which we all look forward to. It gives us joy, energy for new achievements, and faith in making your dreams come true. This is what our newspaper is about. It is about personal discoveries, positive experience, and creativeness. English, in turn, plays a key role in all of this. Its study opens up a whole world of colors and possibilities, therefore, this newspaper glorifies our love and interest in a given language and culture of its speakers, and also pays tribute to the English Philology and ELT Methodology Department of Blagoveschensk State Pedagogical University as the main center for their storage and distribution in Blagoveshchensk. Thus, it was decided to devote the first issue to travel, language practice and, of course, autumn. It breathes with youth, creativity, and fresh impressions collected in different parts of Russia and the world. Alyona Novikova and Anastasia Repnikova will describe you Africa and its local charm. Anastasia Kuknerik and Maria Brytner will tell you what the seemingly distant and mysterious London really is, to which so many films and books are dedicated! Yustina Pika will immerse you in Asian culture and local etiquette, and Marina Kunitskaya will warm you with her Greece review. You will walk along the streets of St. Petersburg and its famous bridges that are lowered across the Neva together with Polina Ermizina and Elizaveta Chernisheva. Diana Subbotkina and Anna-Maria Skop will take you to the new world and share their experiences of taking up the American lifestyle. Joanna will guide you along the narrow mountain paths and take you to the peaks, from which dizzying views will open. Arina Burlakova and Elizaveta Gavrilovskaya will greet you from the maritime city of Vladivostok and tell you about autumn on the Russian island... Of course, the conversation about autumn would be impossible without a cup of aromatic coffee, heartwarming movies, and poems, therefore, in this issue you will also find a movie review of "Pride and Prejudice" by Aleksandrina Zhilinskaya as well as the interviews with the people behind the "The City Poets`Club" and former graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Language Ekaterina Osipova, who is currently the head of DO.ART creative space and my co-editor. In conclusion, I would like to separately thank an incredible artist, Anastasia Kostenko, for creating the cover and translating the idea of the newspaper with colors on paper, as well as express my deep gratitude to everyone who took part in the work on the issue, all the authors, my colleagues, and friends. We did a great job and had an incredibly interesting three months. Together we create a separate universe, and its name is Sunrise. Let the reading of this issue give you joy and warmth throughout November and winter evenings. With love, Sunrise Chief Editor, Elena Rudakova [email protected] 3 SUNRISE November 2018 №1
