TRAVELING
My Sunny Holidays
Marina Kunitskaya

I think that summer is the best time of
the year because I really love warmth and the
sun. Moreover, I have a lot of free time in
summer and I can do whatever I want. My
family likes travelling to different countries but
if we don`t have such an opportunity, I stay at
home to play the piano, to listen to music or to
walk with my friends on the waterfront,
admiring the sunsets.
In June, I went to the camp with my
pals. A few days before the journey, I had
packed my suitcase and could not wait to go.
On the day of the departure, I met my friends
and we discussed together what would
happen in that camp shift: who would join us
and which squad we would get in. But it turned
out that we didn`t have to worry as eventually
we had a lot of fun, spending time outside and
all the days were flying fast. In the end, we got
many positive memories and it was very sad
for us to leave. But I was not upset that much
because the new travelling was waiting for me.
At the beginning of July, I went to
G r e e c e, we l l - k n ow n fo r t h e a n c i e n t
civilization, spectacular landscapes and
amazing nature. We lived on the island Crete in
a small town. Every day we went to the beach,
swam in the sea and enjoyed the rays of the
sun. What`s more, we visited a lot of tourist
attractions. One of them is the island
Santorini. It is a very beautiful place! There are
a lot of small white houses with blue windows,
sandy beaches and amazing restaurants with
some of the world's best wines on the menu.
No doubt, this place is buzzing with tourists
from all the corners of the world and you can`t
help feeling to be a part of a joyful feast.
Our next destination was Knossos
where we had an excursion to the ancient
palace which had belonged to the Cretan
sovereign. It`s almost ruined but still it`s
possible to see how people of that epoch
lived. It`s surprising but they had the same
household items as we do nowadays but with
the only difference that they were made of
stone and clay. Then I should say that I was
quite impressed with the special rooms for
wine and olive oil. They are big and keep the
smell of the old times and diligent production.
Two weeks were enough for me to
learn the culture and get interested in the
mythology of Ancient Greece. I talked with the
local people and enjoyed the national cuisine.
It is very delicious and usually served in big
portions. So, you`ll never be hungry when you
are in Greece. To be honest, it looks like a
tradition to eat until you burst and… to have
fun! Yes, the Greek are very humorous and
positive people who are ready to help and to
chat even if you don`t speak English well. They

love fascinating activities especially they
enjoy dancing. I remember being at the café
with my mom when one of the musicians who
played the national tunes invited me to dance
sirtaki. It was very funny!
Two weeks in Greece, a colorful and
sunny country, were unforgettable but we
couldn`t stay longer as we had to go to St.
Petersburg. To tell the truth, I was sure that
the weather would be rainy and gloomy but it
was the other way round. It was warm and
sunny. I have already been there before and
gone on sightseeing but St. Petersburg is a
place where you want to return. Most of all I like
its architecture and singing musicians in the
streets. It is very nice to walk around the city,
look at old buildings and listen to live music.
At the end of July, we returned to
Blagoveshchensk. All August I was at home,
walking with my friends and enjoying the last
month of summer. It was the time when I
understood that I have very good and loyal
friends and it made me happy. Also, I started
playing the guitar and get inspiration from this
activity. To sum it all up, this summer was full of
fun, happiness and bright memories that I will
remember forever!
