SUMMARY
The soils are irreplaceable and irrecoverable limited natural
resource that requires be conserving and using sustainably.
They are subject to increasing pressure, the creation or
strengthening of human activities such as inappropriate
agricultural and forestry practices, industrial activities,
waste disposal, tourism or urban development. These
activities damage the soil’s ability to continue to implement
fully its many diverse and essential functions.
Furthermore, the degradation has a strong impact on other
components of the environment, water and biodiversity and
on climate change, protection of human health and food
safety. The Communication of the European Commission
