BeautY in detaiL / teeth a new generation of braces and veneers has been introduced in recent years that requires minimal sacrifice of your comfort and brings great results. For many years, patients had to live with aesthetic problems that were tooth related. orthodontics could straighten teeth, but could do nothing for malformation or problems associated with tooth colour. the psychological ramifications to the patient with an unaesthetic smile are only beginning to be understood and validated. some dentists still regard it is a “violation of the hippocratic oath” to disturb “healthy” tooth structure, which we believe too. For many patients, cosmetic dentistry can be a life changing experience; giving those who weren’t lucky enough to be born with a “perfect” smile what they always wanted. NON-PREPARATION VENEERS Patients who are not happy with the smile “mother nature” provided can choose to have a “smile makeover”. that means, correcting aesthetic problems associated with tooth shape, position, and colour is possible now with non –preparation veneers. these veneers can be placed completely within the enamel in a non-invasive way. Just as traditional veneers, these are adhesively bonded to the facial surface of the teeth. however, they do not require the dentist to grind, cut or file down any tooth structure for proper placement. so if you change your mind after some time and wish to proceed with a different approach to your dental care, the non-preparation veneers are quite easily removable. “Non-preparation veneers are mostly used for corrections of chipped, fractured or worn teeth, as well as small, slightly discoloured, stained, misshapen or misaligned teeth,” lists dr. Bednarova, a prosthetic specialist of mediestetik clinic. “Significantly misshapen or misaligned teeth, however, may require classic veneer YOUTH CODE Dental caRe 1819 3 40 14 the wire crib (base for modern braces) was first INTRODUCED TYPES of braces are offered at the Mediestetik clinic PERCENT of orthodontics patients are adults #5 autumn/winter 2016 placement or orthodontic treatment.” ORTHODONTIC CARE if you’re about to turn the page because you feel too old for orthodontic care, stop right now. Public opinion on braces has been significantly changed during last two decades. “Adults wearing braces have become an absolutely normal sight lately. I’d say that 40 per cent of my patients are adults,” says dr. martin Šrubař, the orthodontic specialist of mediestetik clinic. according to dr. Šrubař, these are usually people between 30 and 40 years of age who haven’t been happy about their smile since childhood but were never brave enough to do something about it. a more attractive smile can improve their career prospects or social lives in general. although orthodontic treatment is primarily being recommended to the patients with uneven teeth, or with problems, which already are or can eventually turn into a health endangering issue, most people now chose braces for purely aesthetic purposes. INNER, OUTER, REMOVABLE there are three main types of braces offered at our clinic – traditional inner or outer and special removable ones. traditional fixed outer braces consist of small metal or ceramic brackets and a thin connective wire. the brackets are fixed on the outer side of the teeth and are slowly pulled together through various stages of straightening into a nice and healthy dental arch. Just as the traditional outer braces, fixed inner braces also consist of small metal brackets and a thin connective wire.
