Hands weave around each other,

pleating words into a cradle quilt.

You look up as if the moonlight

would blind you,

your eyes full of blood.

And I stand watching it all,

purling my own strength into lies.

She watches him like she does the moon.

His face pulsing in darkness,

dizzying heights above her,

His past is all she sees.

Smiles already buried,

words already snatched away by the cold.

She still watches,

knowing he’s already somewhere else.
