The food we ate represented the accessibility to the item that day. If the fishermen were lucky, we ate fish and if they weren't we ate rice. Regardless of what we craved, mother nature had a plan and the villagers taught us to be thankful for anything she gave us. On one of the first days the members of the experience had the opportunity to spend the morning with women from a nearby village as they prepared some everyday dishes. These dishes consisted of a wrapped fish and a type of leaf stuffed rice called Juane.

Fish wrapped in banana leaves

Debone fish

Peel the cocona

Cop into small pieces

Rub cocona onto the fish with pepper

Wrap fish in banana leaves and

Roast wrapped fish over fire until they stop leaking

Let cool and enjoy!

JUANE

Clean, peal, and crush the garlic

Heat garlic and oil in pot

Wash the rice and add into pot

Boil until cooked

Stuff banana leaves with rice and add in meat, fish, an egg or anything of your choosing. Tie tightly closed

Boil the wrapped rice for half an hour

Enjoy!
