SHE VOTES
On 31 May 2016, YWCA Adelaide hosted the major pre-election event for women in South
Australia at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute. This highly successful event was
attended by 21 federal candidates from across all major and minor parties, where guests heard
from each party on their platform for women’s issues, and were then able to ‘speed date’
candidates, giving them the opportunity to discuss with them issues affecting women leading
up to the election.
Some of the major themes raised during the forum included addressing violence against
women, cuts to women’s legal and workforce services, women in sport, and women’s
leadership and economic empowerment.
YWCA Adelaide was proud to collaborate with a number of women’s groups in South Australia
to host this exciting event, including Zonta, Siroptomists International, BPW, CWA, National
Council of Women SA, Women’s Community Centre SA and the National Rural
Women’s Coalition.
