LIFE MEMBERS
It is with sadness we share news of the We honour our current Life Members and
passing of two of our long standing Life thank them for their contribution and support to our organisation:
Members, Mary Evins and Joy Raven.
Mary Evins first got involved in the YWCA in
1949 on an invitation to join a group of
English migrants who were meeting for
friendship, support and activities. Mary was
then was invited onto the Board of YWCA
Adelaide, where she served a number of
years, including as vice President and then
President from 1968-1972. Mary knew much
about the history and purpose of the YWCA
and was made a life member in 1974. She
passed away in November 2015 as our
oldest life member at 103 years old.
Joy Raven passed away in September 2016.
Joy was a member of the YWCA since 1935.
She was part of the YWCA ‘Girl Citizens’
group during the depression, and saw the
delivery of many programs such as a social
work course run by the YWCA. Joy became a
counsellor, supported YWCA camps, made
scones for Anzac Day marches, undertook
leadership development, and joined the
Karuna club in Morphett Vale. Joy was
appointed to the Board when the YWCA
moved to North Adelaide, bringing her
accountancy skills with her, and was later
made a life member.
Thank you Joy and Mary for your lifetime of
commitment to YWCA Adelaide.
In continuing our tradition of honouring our
long standing and dedicated YWCA Adelaide
members, at our 2015 AGM we welcomed
two new Life Members: Sue Avery and Claire
Tatyzo.
