Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program EMBED AWLP VIDEO HERE This program highlighted the importance of the role young Aboriginal women play in recognising cultural leadership. The YWCA Adelaide office also enjoyed a visit from the students, who also participated in the SHE Leads High Conference in 2016. The feedback gained from the AWLP workshops across SA demonstrate their powerful impact on the participants: 12 The Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program (AWLP) is going from strength to strength, with seven programs being delivered across regional South Australia and Metropolitan Adelaide in 2015/2016. “The workshops allowed community women to come together in unity. Aboriginal women don’t acknowledge that they are leaders and are in leadership roles, that’s why leadership workshops like this are very valuable “ YWCA Adelaide’s Kangaroos and Emus Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program is a culturally sensitive program which delivers workshops and events in regional South Australia and metropolitan Adelaide, supporting Aboriginal women to build leadership capacity with a focus on women, family, wellbeing, career and culture. “(I enjoyed) the opportunity for group interaction without judgement and fantastic leadership and confidence building activities.” The Coordinator Lisa Warner, this year had the privilege of delivering the AWLP to a group of amazing young women students from Scotch College who represent a vast cultural diversity from various communities across Australia. In buildi ng the evidence base on the success of the AWLP, in 2015 University of Adelaide Arts Intern Grace OliverDearman delivered a research project exploring the Benefits of Yarning Circles in this program. “The program provides an excellent opportunity for young Aboriginal women to learn about leadership and consider their OWN self and future.”
