STRATEGIC GOAL ONE: By 2019 the YWCA is the leading advocacy organisation for young women in SA. Globally, two YWCA Adelaide Members were part of the YWCA Australia delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York: Claire Tatyzo and Nicole Swaine. Claire also represented YWCA Australia in Bangkok at the UN’s Asia and Pacific Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. Nationally, Claire was among a group of young YWCA women who presented the findings of YWCA’s first national She Speaks Survey in a series of meetings with Federal MPs in Canberra. Started here at YWCA Adelaide in 8 2011, we are tremendously proud and excited to see She Speaks develop into a signature national YWCA project. and Kirsty Sword Gusmao – to draw attention to the extra 65 days Australian women need to work to earn the same as men. Locally, our Rise Above the Pack community safety campaign was effective in engaging a range of male community leaders and raising awareness about women’s safety in public spaces. We held the Equal Pay Day Handbag Auction featuring the donated handbags of 65 exceptional women including Quentin Bryce, Julia Gillard, Ellyse Perry, Nova Peris, Tanya Hosch Georgia Trahair was our 2014 University of Adelaide Arts Intern who completed a research report on the Wellbeing Impacts of our after-breast cancer Encore program. And Gemma Beale joined us for her SafeWork SA Augusta Zadow Award research project into women’s safety working at events and festivals.
