MEMBERSHIP
Listening and Responding
YWCA Adelaide released the results of its 2013 Member Survey this year
showing that respondents placed the highest value of their membership on
the following aspects:
Feeling a sense of belonging to a community of like-minded people
Knowing I am supporting the advocacy work of the organisation
Receiving relevant information and being kept up to date.
Regarding the ‘entry point’ to the YWCA, word of mouth is the way most
respondents recall how they first heard about the YWCA, either from friends,
associates, colleagues or a member of their family. The next highest
responses for the first time hearing about the YWCA is via media coverage
and receiving an email.
As for the reasons women choose to remain Members: the three themes
consistent among responses were professional development, values match
and advocacy.
While a majority of respondents reported feeling they receive enough as
part of their membership, a common thread among those looking for more
asked for a more social, networking, fun outlet to complement the
professional development offerings. We responded to this feedback by
developing and introducing SHE Meets Social Sessions – a regular women’s
group directed by young women for young women. SHE Meets was
successful in attracting funding to secure its development and the first year
of its delivery.
