Globally
First founded in England in 1855, YWCA has become one of the largest
women’s organisations in the world. In a year it reaches approximately 12.3
million program participants globally with the largest outreaches in Africa,
Asia and North America. Closer to home there are YWCAs in Fiji, PNG,
Solomon Islands, Timor Leste and an emerging YWCA in Samoa.
Nationally
The first YWCA was founded in Australia in 1872. Collectively the member
associations deliver 98 different programs from 45 sites nationally, with a
reach of over 48,000 participants. Over 717 staff are employed in delivery of
these programs, with support from almost 1,000 volunteers and over 2,200
members. Our collective annual turnover is nearly $58 million.
Locally
YWCA Adelaide has been providing a voice for young women and girls in
South Australia since its inception in 1880 and is well respected for its work in
advocating for greater gender equality. Working with a modest team it
delivers an active and varied range of programs in to the community.
