These days not so many young people know about their rights and possibilities. Some of them are not even aware that their rights are guaranteed in specific documents. This is why in this section we will give you some information that exist in theory and that one may find interesting and important to use it in the everyday work towards improvement of access to social rights for young people. One of the most important treaties is undoubtedly the European Social Charter. The Charter is a treaty of the Council of Europe which sets out human rights for everyday life and requires their respect by the States which have accepted it. The Charter guarantees the fundamental freedoms and rights of every day, such as:housing, health, education, employment, legal and social protection, movement of persons and nondiscrimination. The Charter was adopted in 1961 and revised in 1996. The Revised Charter can onto force in 1999 and is gradually replacing the initial 1961 treaty.
