The Reverend Dr. Lisa Allen-McLaurin has been a servant of God for many years, beginning in her home church, Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a graduate of Millsaps College, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Emory University. Dr. Allen-McLaurin had served as a church musician for more than twenty years when she answered a call to ordained ministry. She was ordained an Elder in Full Connection in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church in June, 2007, and her ordination was transferred into the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in July, 2014. Since July, 2005, she has been on the faculty of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia, and in 2011 was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship. Her teaching interests include worship in the African-American context, spirituality and theology in worship, and gender issues in the Black Church.

Her particular areas of research specialization include African and African-American worship, worship and theology, and multicultural worship. She is a contributing author to the recently published Womanist and Black Feminist Responses to Tyler Perry Productions (Palgrave McMillan, 2014), The Ships Continue to Sail: How to Navigate the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church during Stormy and Challenging Times (CME Church, 2014), and Companion to the Africana Worship Book (Discipleship Resources, 2008). She is currently preparing two books for publication, OneWord: A New Paradigm for Worship Planning, and In God’s Safety: Psalms that Saved My Life. Read more about this dynamic woman of God.
