– Dick Hebdige

It is often argued whether the roots of punk lie in Marxism. However, I feel that the philosophies of punk can be coaxed straight from the mouths of the instigators of the movement themselves; Joey Ramone, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Joe Strummer, Joan Jett, John Lydon and Warhol. Punk had begun as a set of ideas screeched and minced through three distorted power chords, to something that taught us that music can be as expressive, conflicting and yet, as inspiring as art, philosophy or film.
