ROCKERS.

The rockers in comparison to the mods were from a more working class background and therefore were not as reformed as the mods. They had a mechanical background so unlike the mods often worked on their own motorbikes and helped one another to revamp and reinvent their bikes to a higher standard both mechanically and visually. The “Teddy-boy” subculture from the 1950s were seen to be ‘spiritual ancestors’ for the rockers and heavily influenced their style and attitudes. The rockers wanted to rebel against society and because of this the mainstream media targeted this youth group as “folk devils”. Contrary to belief the rockers were highly against the use of recreational drugs, whereas the Mods were avid users of drugs.
