Originating in the 60s mods were one of the biggest youth cultures to date. Throughout the decades they have influenced many different aspects of youth culture. Even now, they are still influencing styles, fashion and celebrities such as Noel Fielding, and the Gallagher brothers. Why were the youths so interested in being mods though? Alfredo Marcantonio, who was a 17-year-old Mod in 1964 said "After the war everything had been very grey. My sister got me into the music but I was most attracted to Mod culture by the cool clothing. No one else dressed like that and so we stood out. I got beaten up a couple of times and chased. Mods were seen as being soft. "

During the 1960s the biggest influences within the mod culture were Roger Daltrey from The Who, Twiggy—world famous super model and Paul Weller of The Jam. Each of them bringing attitude and personality into the culture and influencing many. Were these influences positive or not? Mods often aimed at being modern, ahead of the times, controversial and exciting. Their style was always neat, pressed, sharp and cool. Embracing not only androgyny but all things sexy and sophisticated. So when you look at this it could be said that their aesthetics and attitudes were a positive influence but rivalry got in the way of this nature of the Mods.
