Bed-In's.

John and Yoko held a two-week protest ‘Bed in for Peace’ during their honeymoon at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal. The pair knew that this would attract media attention in abundance, so they used this to their advantage.

The Idea came from the idea of a sit in; where people would remain seated in front of an establishment until they are arrested, removed or until they get what they want. Ono and Lennon insisted that their protests were non-violent and wanted to engage in peaceful protest as a way of exploring new and innovative ways of promoting peace.

The pair would invite the world media into the room for twelve hours each day and would sit in bed, in pyjamas underneath hand painted “hair peace” and “bed peace” signs. They went on to record their anti-war anthem “give peace a chance” during the second part of the protest in Montreal with a hand-picked selection of guests.

Ono and Lennon realised that the media and older generations had begun to write off their ideas of peace in the ways that they had wrote off the younger generations attempts. They knew that they had to find a new way of peacefully promoting peace, whilst ensuring that their message was heard…
