AESTHETICS
OF FOOD
Food is quite common part of our lives. We buy it, cook it and use it
to calm down hunger. Not many of us would probably compare it to
Mona Lisa or Michelangelo’s David but nevertheless food can also
bring us an aesthetic experience. Moreover, we can place the same
demands on food as we place on artworks.
Man has always thought about how
to make his or her food better. Originally,
it was tastier berries, then meat and even
later it was seasoning. We have invented
many ways how to process and prepare
meals and various rules for dining. Molecular
gastronomy appeared as well as culinary
aesthetics.
You can enjoy those in the heart of
Prague. There is a restaurant recognizing the
principles of culinary aesthetics in the Art
Nouveau building of Hotel Savoy just few
steps from historical monuments such as
Prague Castle, Loreta, Strahov Monastery or
Petřín. Its name is Restaurant Hradčany and it
has been offering solely the most interesting
selections of dishes of both Czech and
international cuisine.
FOOD OF ART
Lunch or dinner in this restaurant is a
compact gourmet and aesthetic experience,
guaranteed by the accurate selection of
ingredients and precise preparation of
each dish. Same as abstract art is defined
by breaking the contemporary forms and
creating something new, so the modern
gastronomy tries to find new recipes and
ingredients as well as new combinations,
new states and structures of formerly
notoriously known viands. Dining is no
longer just consumption, nowadays it’s an
exhilarating experience.
“We are ceaselessly working on
improvement of techniques and on creating
new combinations which would astonish
but would also keep their distinctively simple
taste,” says Petr Patočka, Chef of Restaurant
Hradčany. “Personally, I collect an inspiration
by visiting various prestigious restaurants
and culinary festivals. It is really beautiful and
creative profession. A perfect gastronomic
experience of each and every guest is the
greatest appreciation for me.” Such wellknown figures as Sean Connery, Bruce
Willis, Jacques Chirac or Princess Caroline
of Monaco already dined in Restaurant
Hradčany and left greatly satisfied.
AESTHETIC OF DINING
Interior, the highest standards of
service and food flawlessly organized in
precise shapes and so thought through
compositions that the guest almost doesn’t
want to spoil the artwork with cutlery.
Unmistakeable taste of quality fresh
ingredients mostly from local suppliers
and the musical touch, all of this has to
be perfect. Emotions connected to such
gourmet experience and the impressions
from an intensive work of art are absolutely
identical:
astonishment,
curiosity,
enthusiasm and admiration.

to make the guests feel like sitting outside. In the winter
soft candlelight and golden details of our interior design
make a very festive and sumptuous impression. A life piano
accompaniment is the perfect final touch of every evening.”

„Our aim is completely pleasant aesthetic experience in
