I like sidekicks
They are heroes through reflection
Perfect mirrors reflecting light
steadfast loyalty and steady hand,
reflecting the brilliance they receive.
I don’t think I’m brilliant, but
I see brilliance all around me
I’m not someone to talk about, but
I know how to speak.
In a world where everyone is trying to be heard,
maybe my job is to amplify another’s voice
and in that way,
we can be heard through the crowd.
I like sidekicks because I’m still
grappling with the fact that
my heart has been torn open by the
one time someone has ever looked into my eyes and said,
“I want to ask about you.”
