Hospital heroes!
In May, more than 200 superheroes
became the first people to ever abseil down
St Thomas’ Hospital. The brave bunch of
patients, supporters and staff, including
the Trust Chief Executive and Chief Nurse,
abseiled 160 feet down the hospital’s North
Wing overlooking the River Thames and
the Houses of Parliament. Together they
raised a fantastic £100,000. Thank you to
all our hospital heroes!
One in two people will get cancer in their
lifetime. It’s more vital than ever to identify and
refer those at risk as quickly as possible. Guy’s and St Thomas’ is leading in
innovative ways to do this, thanks to your wonderful support.
The Cancer Genetics team have developed a new app for clinicians and
GPs. It helps them determine whether a patient or their family has an inherited
susceptibility to cancer.
Kenisha carries a gene which means she’s at high risk of getting
breast and ovarian cancer. She knows this now, but before she

‘Current financial constraints make it hard to make innovative
ideas a reality,’ says Dr Anju Kulkarni, consultant in cancer and clinical
genetics. ‘The app wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our supporters’ generosity.’
Officially amazing!
Did you hear? Evelina London Children’s Hospital received an
‘outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and Guy’s
and St Thomas’ was awarded as ‘good’. We’re immensely proud of all
staff across the Trust.
Evelina London is the only children’s hospital in the UK to have this
rating – amazing!
