School supports Savannah Ward Thank you to the lovely students at St John’s School in Leatherhead for choosing Evelina London as their Charity of the Year for 2016. 14-year-old Amelia suffers from an ultra-rare autoimmune condition which affects the nerves that control her body’s organs. Amelia, St John’s School London pupil and patient at Evelina Amelia spent most of Year 9 and 10 in Evelina London rather than at school. Her classmates organised a charity dinner in January, raising £5,000. The grand total rose to an incredible £6,481 by the end of the school year. The money raised will help improve the family kitchen facilities on Savannah Ward. ‘We’re so grateful for the fundraising efforts of the school; it will benefit so many other families staying on the ward,’ says Amelia’s mum, Kyrste. ‘We’re also thankful to the wonderful team at Evelina London. Amelia has come so far in the past 18 months.’ Golfing grandad John Lynch fundraised for Evelina London to say thank you for his granddaughter Ava’s treatment. His golf club has raised an amazing £5,575, which will go to the Intensive Care Unit and the High Dependency Cardiac Ward. John’s granddaughter Ava needed emergency treatment at Evelina London as soon as she was born, and had to stay in the hospital for three weeks. She’s now a happy and healthy two-year-old. ‘I witnessed first-hand the fantastic care, dedication and support of teams of doctors and nurses, and the impact this had on children and their families,’ John says. ‘I hope that the funds will be used to support the dedicated staff who work so diligently to support their patients.’ Want help with your fundraising ideas?
