CHARLEY HULL
Charley Hull first picked up a golf club at the age of 2 and
since that day all she has ever wanted to do is play the
game she loves. Still only a teenager Charley Hull is at the
pinnacle of the sport, with four top tens in her first 4 LET
events everyone new that Charlie Hull was going to be
the next big thing in women’s golf.
Now in 2015 Charley is a permanent fixture on the
platinum tour events, and with the spot light placed firmly
on her she is set to make her second appearance in the
Solheim cup and could be poised to win the first major of
her career.
In 2013, her rookie season on the LET, Charley won
the Rolex Rookie of the Year title and was the youngest
Solheim Cup player in history, aged 17. As a Cup rookie,
she helped Europe to win the event for the first time on
US soil. During the remainder of that year she played in 15
tournaments on the LET and posted 10 top-10 finishes,
including five consecutive second places.
The English women is competitive in everything she does
and plays with a passion that shows with every swing she
takes. Charley’s down to earth, honest and fun approach
to golf has made her a hit both sides of the Atlantic. As
this issue goes to press is the fiery teenager is competing
in the Womens US Open, we caught up with her to get an
insight in to the life of the teenage prodigy who taking the
women’s game by storm.
In 2014, four days shy of her 18th birthday Charley joined
the winners circle at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco
clawing back a 5 a five shot deficit to the experienced Tour
winner Gwladys Nocera. From that moment on the young
rising star from Kettering was the name on everyone’s lips
in women’s Golf.
What’s the main golfing aim for 2015? Do you set your
season up to reach that one particular goal or do the
goal posts constantly move?
I don’t really like to set goals but my main aim for 2015
was to secure my LPGA card which I am on track to
achieve so I am really pleased with my year so far.
The 1969 Open and 1970 US Open winner Tony Jacklin,
a close friend of Charley’s, believes her progress is similar
to that of Rory McIlroy and that she’s a world-beater who
could change the face of women’s golf.
You have had a really solid start to the 2015 campaign
recording 5 top ten finishes, what do you think has been
missing to get you over the finish line to claim your
second tour win?
