he Northern part of the island is often a forgotten
world for the young visitors to the island, Palma’s
population dominates the numbers of Mallorca
with over half its population located in the capital.
As you travel away from the capital the hum of the city
dies down and 40 minutes by car is all it takes for the
island to reveal the tranquil beauty of Alcudia and its
crystal clear bay. The town of Alacanda is located at the
oceans edge and offers all the requirements of modern
tourist driven town, its many bars and restaurants run
along the beach and it’s from here you will see the Club
De Golf Alcanada nestled on the bays shore line as it runs
away in to a back drop of the Mallorcan Mountains.
Alcanada offers a unique golfing experience it differs
from anything else on the island and from many courses
on mainland Europe. The Robert Trent Jones Jr designed
course offers a testing and enjoyable golf challenge set
in a protected landscape with breath taking views. Due
to its location on the island the course takes on many
undulations, the land rolls out of the foothills on the
mountains right to the very edge of the bay, its old pine
and olive trees harbour an array of wildlife making the
7200 yard par72 course a not just a beautiful course to
play but a stunning course to view.
After you have passed through the small hamlet of Alcudia
you are greeted by the gates to the club. A small road runs
500m to the front of the course up to the parking areas
where the caddy master and his team are waiting to greet
you, unburden you of your clubs before you make your
way up to the beautifully restored century old mansion
which acts as its club house. The changing rooms, Pro
shop, bar and restaurant are all crafted from the remains
of the old mansion, open brick walls and study old wooden
beams are on show capturing the age and beauty of the
settings, as you proceed up to the terrace the landscape
that surrounds you is a site to behold.
Although the club is set in the grounds of the old mansion
and the course lies on protected land this hasn’t stopped
the club equipping itself with fantastic facilities and
modern golfing technology. Its driving range, practice
areas and putting greens are all on par with the very
best golf courses in Europe. The golf club has its own
experienced multilingual PGA pro, so no matter what level
of golfer of nationality you are there is always help at hand
before you head out on the course.
Alcanada has been ranked 1st amongst the popular golf
courses in Europe and the “Rolex Golf Guide” has placed
the venue inside the top 1000 courses in the world and
