MEYRICK PARK
Meyrick Park is a municipal course, but don’t let that
put you off. It’s by no means easy and the club is right
when it says it’s one of “Bournemouth’s best kept
secrets”. The course is less than half a mile from the
town centre and once you’re stood outside the club
house you wouldn’t realise, you’re surrounded by
towering woodland and undulating fairways.
The first hole used to be one of the longest Par 3′s in
the country and it’s not difficult to come away with
a double bogey if you push your tee shot. The first
sets the mood for the rest of the round, this course is
tight and requires a sensible head and good course
management, you can quite easily play the majority
of the holes without taking the driver out of the bag.
Henry Cotton has noted the 14th as one of the finest
golf holes in England, and it is a great hole, a long
par 5 that narrows the closer you get to the green,
but there are a number of holes that are just as
challenging. The Par 3 8th is great risk/reward hole,
if you put it on the green you can easily birdie but
anywhere else sees you in thick heather or your ball
rolling 50ft down the green side hill.
The Course is part of a health complex so the facilities
are great, nice changing rooms and a gym to be used
if you have a pass. There is a golf clubhouse which
is open on Wednesday and weekends but there is
also the bar and restaurant in the health club. The
pro shop is small but well stocked and the club pro is
extremely helpful.
£32 on a weekend is a little pricey but there are
plenty of green fee deals for Meyrick starting at as
little as £11. Definitely worth a play.
IN THE EVENING...
Throughout the town there are a myriad of cutting edge bars, cool clubs and drinking
cubby holes to suit everyone. Walk in either direction from the iconic Bournemouth
Pier to reach sublime spots for food and drink with a view. The town centre is eminently
walkable, but there are plenty of taxi ranks to make sure you get to where you’re going
quicksmart and don’t miss out on any of the fun!
ARUBA
Aruba is one the largest bars in the town and is situated right on the seafront a top of
the pier. With a sun terrace, outdoor seating, tropical palm trees and an island cocktail
bar; the cosmopolitan venue boasts panoramic sea views and can host your group at
any time of the day. It’s always lively night in Aruba, each night has a different feel but
Jazz Juice (the first Friday of the month) is always a good bet for a great night.
