So, who is in contention to win the 2015 US Open? The defending champion, Martin Kaymer, has to be considered
as an outsider going in to this year’s event. The holder of two major golf titles, Kaymer has stated he will arrive at
Chambers Bay two days before the first practice round, in an attempt to learn the course before the tournament
starts. However, having missed the cut at the Valero Texas Open, Shell Houston Open and The Masters this year,
it will be a somewhat spectacular return to form, if Kaymer is to retain his US Open title. Furthermore, no player,
since Curtis Strange in 1989, has successfully defended the US Open.
In terms of gaining experience of
the Chambers Bay course, Masters
champion Jordan Spieth, may have
something of an advantage. Before
linking up with Spieth, his caddie,
Michael Greller, used to work as
a caddie at Chambers Bay and
considering the comments of Mike
Davis, this could turn out to be a
huge bonus. It goes without saying,
that Spieth is playing fantastic golf
in 2015, crowned with his triumph
at Augusta in April. With Greller at
his side, there is little reason not to
back the young American to win his
first US Open title and he is quite
rightly one of the favourites for the
