The golf course is spectacular, we enjoy it every single time we are in
the area. The greens are some of the best that we have ever played
on, smooth, true and in the summer fast.
You can pick so many great things to highlight at Abbeydale, the
beautifully mown fairways, wonderfully manicured 1st and 2nd cuts
of rough, the firm, yet receptive (and deceptive) greens or the very
well-kept and aesthetically pleasing bunkers. This course is as good
as it gets.
The 4th hole is a great par 4 and this is reflected with the stroke index
of 1. It will take two good shots to find the green, which is protected
by 2 large bunkers.
The short par 3, 10th is a tricky par 3, even though the yardage may
suggest otherwise. A solid short iron approach is vital to this well
protected green.
The par 5, 14th is a great hole; the drive should be positioned short of
the rough that’s cuts the fairway in two. Longer hitters can reach this
green in two to set up a fantastic birdie chance.
The final hole, just 144 yards from the yellow tees is by no means an
easy finish. Standing on the tee, with the clubhouse looking on, the
nerves are jangling, especially if you need to make a par on the hole
to end with a good score.
The green is well protected, very well protected by no less than 7
bunkers. A fantastic finish.
We haven’t mentioned any particular holes that stand out as the
signature because we couldn’t choose a single one, each has its
strengths and all could easily be the best representation of the course.
