As three time champion, Phil Mickelson once said, “The
winner of this tournament doesn’t just win a major, he
becomes a part of the history of the game, and that’s what
excites me.” A piece of history of the Masters was made,
when in 1958, a writer by the name of Herbert Wind,
nicknamed the second shot at the 11th, all of the 12th,
and the first two shots at the 13th hole “Amen Corner”
The reason behind the name, was closely linked to the
events that took place between Arnold Palmer and Ken
Venturi, when the rules were brought in to question on
this section of the Augusta National course. Herbert said
he wanted a catchy phrase like baseball’s “hot-corner”
or football’s “coffin-corner” to explain where some of
the most exciting golf had taken place. Amen Corner has
become so famous, that many television companies now
