You could probably make a good go of eating your way around the world without ever leaving our cobblestone streets behind. Cafe culture The Beach House No trip to Portobello, one of many white-sand beaches to the east, is complete without ducking your head into The Beach House for some gelato and the famous ‘Edinburgh Seaside’ gin and tonic. Cairngorm Coffee Conceived in the Highlands but founded in Edinburgh, Cairngorm has a couple of locations in the city, both serving tremendous coffee and fantastic toasted cheese sandwiches. Lovecrumbs Get in early and snuggle up with your laptop for an afternoon of study accompanied by excellent Scottish coffee and sweet and savoury treats. Paradise Palms Maki and Ramen Paradise Palms This tropical haven sits just off Lothian Street and offers delicious vegetarian food alongside colourful cocktails with bright umbrellas. Maki and Ramen El Cartel Mexicana Take yourself to Tokyo with a big bowl of ramen. There are three locations around downtown, so head here if you are after a comforting meal while you revise. El Cartel Mexicana This tiny place on picturesque Thistle Street had us at “hola”. Colourful Mexican tapas are dished out from behind a massive tiled wall until late seven days a week. The Beach House
