The Campus Center
for Health & Optimum
Performance (CC-HOP),
Funded by Foot Levelers,
is where D.C. students
begin the clinical phase
of their chiropractic
education. Under faculty
supervision, students
adjust their peers, learn
the basics of technique,
become familiar with
radiology and assessment,
and hone their skills.
sent me to swim classes at the YMCA because, as mothers tend to
worry, she feared that someday I might drown in that river. So, my
first day of swim class the teacher calls the roll, and when she gets
to my name, she says, ‘Oh yeah, your dad’s the quack.’ Mind you,
I’m only eight years old, but I say, ‘No, my dad’s a chiropractor,’ to
which she scoffs and says, ‘Like I said, a quack.’ I told myself that
someday I was going to fix things so that no other little kid would
have to hear that kind of comment from anybody.”
And it is because of his enthusiasm and dedication that
Greenawalt set up the Foundation, which now has more than
21,000 members, and also gives so generously to chiropractic
institutions.
He adds to his philanthropic roster a gift of $250,000 to Life
University at its greatest time of need. It was then that Greenawalt
called Dr. Guy F. Riekeman, currently Life University’s Chancellor,
and asked about the situation at the University. When Riekeman
informed him that “we are about a quarter of a million dollars
away” from the necessary funding, Greenawalt immediately sent
what was needed to keep the University alive and get it back on the
road to recovery.
Greenawalt notes that during its entire 66-year history, Foot
Levelers’ heart has always been with Chiropractic and its schools,
but with LIFE, there is an especially strong alignment between
their belief systems. He explains that both are patient-centered
and fully believe in the power of the adjustment to enhance the
patient’s overall wellness. He adds, “So, it’s so nice to work with
an institution that has the beliefs and core values that LIFE has.
Actually, it makes it fun too, and we treasure our relationship
with LIFE.”
Greenawalt continues, “When we were able to help save
Life University for future generations, it allowed us to help
Chiropractic as well.” He notes the special relationship that
Foot Levelers has with Life University as just one example of
the purpose of their own Educational Division that began about
50 years ago. He says that it has given many millions of dollars
back to schools, state associations and national associations.
He muses, “If they did an autopsy on us, they’d say we had a very
unusual blood type called ‘Chiropractic.’ So, our dedication to the
profession is running through our veins!”
He adds that this type of support is not one-sided, as LIFE has
been an enormous supporter of the Foundation for Chiropractic
Progress. He says, “LIFE gives us a lot of money to help with
positive press for Chiropractic, which helps the profession on a
very broad scope, and we’re immensely proud to help LIFE on a
very specific scope.”
