and I agree that YFU USA retains the right to increase the program cost if, but only if, increases in travel-related costs and/or currency fluctuations necessitate such action. In no event, however, will any such increase exceed 10% of the total program tuition I am obligated to pay. I accept the policies as stated below related to cancellation and refunds. a. If YFU USA receives written notification by May 1 (for ALL summer departure programs) or October 1 (for winter departure programs), all amounts paid toward the tuition EXCEPT the $1000 enrollment deposit will be refunded. b. If written notification of cancellation is received after May 1 (for ALL summer departure programs) or November 1 (for winter departure programs), all amounts paid toward the tuition EXCEPT $2000 will be refunded. 2. c. If my child voluntarily withdraws, or is dismissed, from the Program at any time after commencement of the Program, I understand that I am not entitled to any reimbursement. 3. Unless my child is a scholarship recipient and the scholarship expressly provides otherwise, I acknowledge that YFU USA Program tuition does not cover costs of passports, immunizations, visas, or the personal needs of my child, and that all such expenses are my responsibility. I will provide my child sufficient spending money to cover his or her needs throughout his or her participation in the Program. TRAVEL 1. I understand that YFU USA has designated certain airports within the U.S. as points of departure and arrival for travel to and from the U.S. I agree to arrange for my child’s transportation to and from the designated departure airport. 2. I acknowledge that YFU USA will book my child’s domestic and international air travel from the designated departure airport, and I will not make alternative travel arrangements for my child. a. For Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange applicants ONLY: I understand that the CBYX scholarship does not cover domestic airfare. I agree to arrange and purchase a domestic flight, or arrange domestic travel, for my child to the international airport YFU USA designates as the departure point for the Program. 3. I agree to pay any airport and customs taxes as well as charges assessed for baggage that exceed applicable airline limitations. 4. In making arrangements for my child, YFU USA contracts with or uses third parties, including but not limited to its international partners, commercial airlines, trains, buses, restaurants, hotels, and other entities whose performance and services cannot be controlled by YFU USA. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless YFU USA from any action arising out of the actions or negligence of third parties including but not limited to lost baggage, uncomfortable quarters, travel delays, injury, bodily harm, or death. I further agree that YFU USA reserves the right to change or alter travel, lodging, and other arrangements if YFU USA believes such change or alteration be in the best interest of the participants and/or the Program. 5. I agree that my child will travel to and from his or her host country in strict accordance with the travel plans made by YFU USA, and YFU USA is authorized to hold all tickets to ensure such travel. I will not encourage or permit my child to travel outside the host community during his or her participation in the Program except in strict accordance with the following requirements: a. Where my child desires to travel outside the host community with and under the supervision of his or her host parent(s), school official, or other responsible adult, my child must first obtain approval for such travel from YFU. b. Where my child desires to travel outside the host community unaccompanied by his or her host parent(s), school official, or other responsible adult, my child must obtain written approval for such travel from YFU and me. This requirement applies even where the purpose of my child’s travel is to visit relatives or close friends. 6. I will not visit my child during his or her participation in the Program without making arrangements with and obtaining approval from the host family and YFU USA. It is the general policy of YFU to discourage parental visitation during the Program as it can interfere with the program goals and the immersion experience. HEALTH AND SAFETY 1.
