YEO Policy Academies Clean Energy & Environmental Justice Pol. Academy | Page 5

From Michael Keegan Dear Young Elected Officials: We’re excited to welcome you to Denver for our largest YEO Policy Academy to date on an issue that’s close to my heart: clean energy and environmental justice. We’re thrilled to be partnering with NextGen Climate to put together a conference that will allow some of the best and brightest minds across the country to exchange policy ideas and, most importantly, make progress on this critical issue within your constituencies. Young elected officials are leading the way on energy and environment reforms. In December, more than 100 members of the YEO Network joined hundreds of other state and local lawmakers in a letter in support of achieving 50 percent clean energy by 2030. In your cities and towns, many of you are providing models for progress on clean energy solutions. And this weekend you’ll share best practices about what’s already working, and build on that momentum. Thank you for your work, your perseverance, and your leadership. Sincerely, Michael Keegan President People For the American Way Foundation Clean Energy & Environmental Justice Policy Academy | 2016 Even as some continue to push climate change denial, and fossil fuel interests continue to flood our elections with money, it’s impossible to spend time with members of the YEO Network and not feel more optimistic about the future of our country [
