YEO Bios Julian McTizic City Councilman Bolivar, Tennessee Julian Anderson McTizic Sr. is a native of Bolivar, a small, rural town in Hardeman County, TN. Born in December of 1986, he is the youngest African American to hold a seat as a city councilman in the county. In addition to serving as a city councilman, Julian is also a member of his local Rotary chapter, the Bolivar General Hospital Healthcare Foundation, and a proud representative of WoodmenLife (formerly known as Woodmen of the World). While he is passionate about local politics, his favorite pastime is making memories with his wife of seven years, Demetria, and their toddler boys Julian Jr.(3) and Jamison (2). His love for his family and people in general is what drives him to bring positive change to his community. His favorite quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” encourages him to continue striving for success. Juan Mendez State Representative Tempe, AZ Clean Energy & Environmental Justice Policy Academy | 2016 42 Juan Mendez is a first-generation American and a native Arizonan. Elected to the State House of Representatives in 2012, Mendez represents north Tempe, northwest Mesa, and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community. He sits on the Rural & Economic Development Committee and on the Child & Family Affairs Committee. He is chair of the Arizona Latino Caucus. Mendez has served on the City of Phoenix Human Services Advisory Committee working with fellow community leaders to recommend improvements to senior and family service centers and programs for the homeless. Mendez serves on the Tempe Community Council as a planner, advocate, and resource to improve the funding and policies affecting human services in Tempe and the surrounding communities. He received his associate degree from Phoenix College, then graduated with a B.A. in political science and a minor in justice studies from Arizona State University. Dominick Moreno State Representative Commerce City, Colorado State Representative Dominick Moreno was born and raised in Commerce City, Colorado. He attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in American government. Less than a year after his college graduation, Moreno was elected to the Commerce City Council. He served on the council for three years and as mayor pro tem before being elected to the Colorado General Assembly representing District 32. He serves as assistant majority leader and recently sponsored legislation to expand school breakfast in low-income schools, raise the minimum wage, and increase the ability for rural communities to invest in renewable energy. @domoreno
