Advocacy DAVID M.DIXON MBE, FRAeS, Vice Chairman AsBAA’ s Advocacy work remains highly active in the early portion of 2018. We continue to work closely with governments, ministries, educational institutions, the media, minority groups and other stakeholders to qualify and quantify the value of business and general aviation. This area of work is important for many reasons, particularly in the more challenging hubs of the Region where it is occasionally necessary to justify the existence of the industry. As we know, business and general aviation boosts economies, creates jobs, connects remote communities, provides humanitarian support and opens doors to many other opportunities. Watch this space for new and exciting content that will help us in our mission to create growth and opportunity for the industry in Asia. In addition, our Advocacy pillar continues to grow with a snowballing education and careers programme, under AsBAA Discovery. We would like to see more of our members involved in our Advocacy pillar, which helps us to champion the merits of the industry. Please get in touch for more information. Disco very – Bridging the gap between NextGen talent and Industry 2018 is off to a fantastic start with AsBAA Discovery hosting a visit to the Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai campus to educate over 200 students on General/Business aviation and the career opportunities in our exciting industry. We had 5 guest speakers from various aspects of the industry, including a management company, a charter company, a trip support provider, and an FBO along with a presentation from our partners AVIC Foundation. Speakers were engaging and we had great questions asked by the students. Several members in Hong Kong were generous to lend their time to the Hong Kong Aviation Academy in order to better educate them on our industry’ s needs and capabilities. We are developing our partnership and plan to host Discovery Days in the upcoming summer camps as well as join the Academy’ s internship program to help bridge the gap between our members’ needs SARAH KALMETA Board of Governors and the students’ passion for aviation. February will see speaking opportunities for Women in Aviation Singapore as well as interaction with our ERAU Asia student chapter during the Singapore Airshow. With ABACE2018 not far off, please reach out if you are interested in participating on Day 3 in the Education session for students.
