Year of the Dog - AsBAA in Action Year of the Dog - AsBAA in Action_V2 | Page 3

Welcome to the first edition of AsBAA in Action for 2018, your monthly newsletter from AsBAA. This month, we will explore some of the opportunities that lie ahead for our members and the wider industry in 2018 - the Year of the Dog. AsBAA has been actively representing our members in the early portion of the year across the Region and around the globe. We were delighted to see so many of our members, media friends and the wider business aviation community at the Corporate Jet Investor Conference in London this January and we look forward to catching up again at the Singapore Airshow in early February. AsBAA has also been working closely with our fellow IBAC associations this month, in particular, NBAA, in the run up to AsBAA co-hosting ABACE for the fourth consecutive year this April. Whilst the association continues to grow and build in momentum, we are mindful not to lose focus of the basics, which includes our commitment to holding regular meetings across the Region. These meetings are complimentary to AsBAA members and provide a platform to tackle common issues together, with greater influence. In January and February, we have hosted committee meetings in all AsBAA's country chapters. We are delighted to see continued strong attendance at our Mainland China, Hong Kong and Singapore meetings, thank you to those that attend and support these meetings. The mainland China committee continues to go from strength to strength, with the addition of sub-committees in 2018 to better represent our member's needs, more information on this in February's edition of the newsletter. At the Annual General Meeting in June 2017, the new Board of Directors also made a commitment to enhance, expand and grow our support in Southeast Asia. These plans continue in earnest, and we are deeply encouraged to report on the growing strength and influence of the Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia Chapters. In January, AsBAA led a delegation of its members to explore opportunities for growth and development of the industry in the Philippines. This will lead to further cooperation between the authorities and AsBAA (in an advisory capacity) in relation to the development of new aviation infrastructure that includes facilities for general and business aviation. In Singapore, the Chapter is preparing to host those in town for the Singapore Airshow. If you plan to attend the show, please come along to our networking event which will be held at World Fuel Services on 8th February, with further details on the AsBAA events page and in the Regional Representation section of this newsletter. At the show, please also make an effort to attend the IBAC led, CORSIA workshops which are complimentary and will be held on 8th and 9th February. A key priority for AsBAA this year, also defined at the Annual General Meeting in 2017, is to create data toolkits that quantify the value of business and general aviation to economies and communities in Asia. AsBAA is working with our partners to create this enhanced market intelligence, which will support AsBAA's Representation and Advocacy pillars and help us to define the value of the industry to wider audiences. We look forward to sharing the results of these new initiatives with you soon. Also in this edition, we celebrate the growth and advancement of our student and careers chapter, AsBAA Discovery, which has been active both in 2017 and in the early part of 2018 over the holidays, even before this newsletter went to print! Thank you to the universities, colleges and educational institutions in the Region for your support in helping AsBAA to bridge the gap between the next generation talent pool and the industry. We encourage our members that are looking to hire interns and entry level positions to get in touch and make use of the complimentary services. You may have also noticed that we have launched the sponsorship and ticket options for the Icons of Aviation Awards 2018, in support of Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. This annual gala dinner and corporate social responsibility (CSR) event is THE social event of the year, so if you have not yet booked your sponsorship, what are you waiting for?! We hope you enjoy this edition of AsBAA in Action, and we look forward to a fruitful and successful year ahead.
