event: glögg party
november 14

During the holiday season, the traditional Swedish fika
looks a little different than usual. At least one daily cup of
coffee is swapped for glögg—a spiced, sugared and mulled
red wine—and instead of eating cinnamon buns, Swedes
eat lussebullar (saffron buns) and ginger snaps. The glögg
is enjoyed hot, often adding raisins and almonds to the
drink.
In honor of the Swedish glögg tradition—and to kick off
the holiday season—we hosted our annual Glögg Holiday
Business Mixer on November 14, at the Racquet Club of
Philadelphia in Center City. Britt Apell, co-founder of the
Chamber, provided the delicious—and homemade!—glögg
for the party, as well as ginger snaps. Tasty hors d’oeuvres
were also served.
Members and friends gathered for an evening of
networking, and were also challenged to a ‘Swedish Super-
Quiz’, testing the participants’ knowledge in Swedish
trivia. A majority scored an impressive 4 out of 5 correct
answers!
For the ninth consecutive year, SACC-Philadelphia
presented its annual Business Entrepreneurial Award
during the event. It seeks to recognize companies or
individuals that have made a significant contribution to
the exchange of trade and commerce between Scandinavia
and the Greater Philadelphia Region.
This year’s recipient was SKF USA Inc., due to the
company’s strong focus on sustainability and BeyondZero
thinking. Ted Barry, Vice President and General Counsel
of SKF USA Inc., accepted the award on behalf of SKF.
