Yawp Mag ISSUE 19 Getting Ready for the Comedy Festival | Page 4

getting ready for the comedy festival publisher notes Beau Fitzpatrick @beaufitzpatrick Hey everyone, This is what we play for! The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is upon us. May is a myth! We are about to embark on a 451 show bonanza and it’s going to be hot! This is the one time in the year when I can go nuts with my use of exclamation points without feeling guilty. Without guilt!! Oh my God... Comedy Festival!! Last issue, I mentioned a big surprise was coming. I am happy to announce that I will be announcing the announcement in our NEXT issue. It is going to be huge. BYO seatbelt. In the meantime, it is encumbent upon me to thank the people who have made this issue possible. Dorien Boeren as our graphic designer, Jonathan Soo Ho and Dijana Risteska helping out with the video edits and of course our podcast team, still plugging away at production of the ‘YAWP outloud!’ podcast: Kristine Philipp, Joel Evans, Emily Bennett, Jack Prendergast and Phoebe O’Brien. business end of the run and YAWP extends its congratulations in advance for the hard work, the endless writing, tech rehearsals and test show tweaking that is going on about now. Hopefully you don’t go broke... but yea. May the Comedy Gods smile upon you. I’ll handball you onto Steph, who is going to give a run down of this issue... Magazine director notes It was almost impossible to choose who to talk to for this issue. Everyone is thrown into the spotlight ty for a stranger to cling to their piece of paper, long enough to become convinced that they should, perhaps, fork out $5 to see a heavily discounted show which will kind of contribute to them maybe breaking even sort of. For comedians, the comedy festival is as much about soaking up the atmosphere and being part of something big. It’s about shameless self promotion, late nights and celebrating the fact that you simply made it this far... This issue we talked with Sammy J and Randy, Rachel and Issy from Edge, Simon Keck, John Conway and Kate McLennan who talk about their shows and what it is like in the lead up to the Comedy Festival. we see what the venues are doing to prepare for the enslaught, and we get a glimpse of where the festival has come from and where it is positioned today. Enjoy the issue! Steph Gray @GARYGARYGARRYYY
