I could have told her what I thought was wrong with her. But it would have been a mere assumption of mine and could never have been 100% correct under any circumstances. It would have also meant that deep down in my heart I did not believe in her innate capacity and resourcefulness to bring harmony to her own life. I could have told her how the painful past experience should be perceived and what learning she should be gaining in order to get on with life. But it would have been an arrogant imposing of my views on her while depriving her of the opportunity to derive her own learning and meaning from the event. Such leading instead of guiding from a therapist only hinders clients from taking full ownership of their own lives and take them further away from the empowering opportunities they so deserve.
