For newly adapted plants, the amount of time between watering varies from week to week. This guide is specifically geared towards newly adapted desert plants.

This guide provides insight into common visual indicators of over watering and under watering.

Once you have adjusted the time on your controller, turn the system on and inspect for leaks or damage to the emitters, connectors, or tubing. Check all emission points. Make sure they are visible and above grade. Emitters can quickly be buried with dirt and debris. If the drip emitter is buried, it can easily clog. Plug emission points where plants have died. Make sure the valve boxes are visible and can be opened. If the cover has been removed or is missing, a valve box can become a hazard.

Safety Tip:

When the temperatures are near freezing, it is wise to turn off the system entirely. The reason has less to do with the plants and more to do with people. Often water from your system will end up on adjacent sidewalks or driveways. When the temperatures drop, the water on those surfaces will freeze and can cause a very slick surface, thus creating quite a liability! Just don’t forget to turn the system back on.
