You’ve probably already experienced some extremely cold evenings throughout December, but some of the coldest nights in our Arizona desert are yet to come. During January, we will experience temperatures that can shock our plants with freezing. It is important that you know how to protect your yard from the freezing weather. Keep an eye out for freeze warnings from your local weather forecast and keep these tips in mind when preparing.

Use cloth or paper, never use plastic! Sheets or blankets are adequate, but should be removed daily. Frost cloth can be left for a few days.

Drape the plant from top all the way to the ground.

Do not allow any openings (you’re attempting to trap the heat rising from the ground under the cloth).
